The perception of disposable masks by the public has drastically transformed in recent times. Historically, these masks were primarily utilized in medical settings, with little recognition from the general population. Even when there was a demand, people tended to opt for attractive and reusable cotton masks. However, the current scenario has witnessed a seismic shift in public awareness regarding disposable masks.
With the outbreak of the epidemic, people's awareness of masks and self-protection has been significantly heightened. Various types of disposable masks, such as n95 masks and kn95 masks, as well as surgical masks and flat masks, have become widely used by the general public. Disposable flat masks consist of a mask face and ear straps, with the key component being the mask face. The mask face is composed of three layers, namely the inner, middle, and outer layers. The inner layer, which is in direct contact with the skin, is typically made of ordinary sanitary gauze or non-woven fabric, providing a certain level of moisture absorption. The middle layer, made of ultra-fine polypropylene fiber meltblown material, serves the purpose of effectively filtering germs. As for the outer layer, it is either made of non-woven fabric or ultra-thin polypropylene meltblown material, providing a barrier against droplets. Overall, the mask is constructed using non-woven fabric materials.
It is crucial to wear a three-layer disposable flat mask, as it provides effective protection against droplets, splashes, and particulate matter filtration. Additionally, it also serves as a protective barrier against bacteria and germs to a certain extent. The filtration percentage of the mask plays a vital role in determining its efficacy. Therefore, it is recommended to opt for masks with higher filtration percentages.
Even in social settings where one may not necessarily need protection against germs and bacteria, it is advisable to keep a disposable protective mask handy. It not only restricts the invasion of germs but also filters out dust particles present in the air. Being mindful of this fact, it is essential to wear a mask regularly to maintain physical health and ensure self-protection. Timely and correct usage of disposable protective masks is vital to protect oneself from undesirable health conditions.
